Price of more than one hobby

No point denying it, the goal of having one game per month is pretty much a pipe dream by now, largely due to the fact that my focus has mostly been on ‘that other hobby’. Well, at least I have something to show for time spent on model buildning… This time around I’m proud to present Bristol Blenheim Mk I from Airfix. A truly splendid kit that builds like a dream.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program…

Real life hadn’t given me much allowance for wargaming activities over last month or so, but somehow I did manage to crank out another model kit. And so, as it is tradition at this blog, I’m taking the opportunity to side-step into the realm of our sister hobby and bore you with pictures om my latest build.

This time around it’s another one of those delightful little kits from Airfix – a Messerschmitt Bf 109E-7/Trop, in its ‘proper’ African livery. I’m quite spiffed with this kit, especially since it’s the first time I worked on a freehand mottled camo with an airbrush and things worked out rather well. Sure, the spots should have been smaller, but I invoke artistic freedom to excuse this slight oversight!

And in plastic modelling news…

…I’m done with another 1/72 kit. This time around it’s an early Stuka kit from Airfix, actually quite a bit older than I am. Surprisingly though, it was a very pleasant build and the end result is a respectable replica of the infamous Ju-87.

In case you wonder…

…how my Vietnam project is progressing, the answer is ‘It doesn’t’ and here’s the reason why. Now that I’m done with it, I have every intention to spend some more time with those Flashpoint minis.

I must however admit that I’m not sorry for being distracted – this little Zero from Airfix turned out to be a lovely little kit and I enjoyed working on it quite a lot. And I dare say that it may very well be my best build since I’ve started making model kits again.

And yet again, moving on to something completely different…

My return to modelling hobby is bearing fruits again, so it’s time for a bit of bragging yet again. Ok, this time the bragging part is a bit subdued – I had a bit of a mishap with weathering powders while making this little Me-109, so it looks like it has suffered a major engine fire just prior to landing. Still, another simple, but very attractive offering from Airfix and a great fun to build.

Time to brag a little

I must admit that my painting pace has slackened over last month or so. One of main reasons is the fact that for some unexplainable reasons I decided to go back to modelling (no, it had nothing to do with this year’s C4 Open Ler) and a significant chunk of my leisure time was spent on a delightful little Spitfire from Airfix.

Now, airplane models in 1/72 scale aren’t the most practical things to use in wargaming, so this post doesn’t have much to do with the hobby per say. But it’s my blog and I am so damn pleased with how this little model came out that I can’t help but brag a little. I also have to say this – now that Airfix rose from the ashes of their decades long complacency, they have started to release some cracking little models!
